Steven M. Rivera, 46, has been charged with two counts each of child endangerment, reckless endangerment, and careless driving, Lower Saucon Township Police said in a press release on Thursday, Oct. 27.
The charges stem from an investigation into a school bus Rivera was driving from Colonial Intermediate that struck a telephone pole on Lower Saucon Road at Easton Road in Hellertown just after 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 29, police said.
The crash occurred on the first day of school for the district and several others in the area, according to SauconSource.
Neither the two students nor Rivera was hurt in the crash, though the bus had to be towed from the scene.
The investigation and a review of surveillance footage from the school found that Rivera, of Easton, was using a cell phone while driving, police said.
He was charged and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Nov. 21.
